So after arriving back from a long evening over in Manchester looking at a gorgeous mint condition splitscreen camper van that was born in 1967 (like me) I thought I’d do a quick post with a picture. I’m hopefully travelling back over tomorrow with Ant to pick it up.
So, meet Bob the Camper Van …. at long last 🙂
(Hope it fits in the garage … having my doubts … more expense already!)
Dave
Like what you’ve read, then why not tell others about it... they might enjoy it too
If you think Bronco has the skills to take your business forward then what are you waiting for?

Congrats! That looks like a good’n
You shouldn’t have any trouble getting it in a normal (even on the small side) garage. They’re not as big as they seem, only a few inches longer than a proper Beetle.
If you’re on Flickr, you may be interested in http://www.flickr.com/groups/justsplitscreens/ – and please add in any photos. Tar.
Hopefully you’ll get a better deal than this: http://bit.ly/5bQXl
S-i-c-k. Although I see a camper van every 10 yards here in Venice, CA none have been that nice.
Never been much of a Vee-dub fan – I’m a Mini man. But I have to admit, that is stunning (just not sure if the rims suit it).
Congratulations Dave,
He looks lovely (Bob the camper, that is).
Enjoy him, look after him and lavish some money on him and I’m sure Bob will serve you well.
I agree with Chris though, the wheels do need changing. 😉
Happy Camping!
I am *very* pleased, and so totally relieved that the buying phase is over. Please tell me the ownership phase will be less intense 😉
Hi Bob!
They’re cool cars, though I prefer them with somewhat brighter, non-original paint jobs.
Your whole camper van quest is even infiltrating Dutch serps. Scary. =)
Dave
Luv the van but must agree on the rims – so 60’s muscle car. What a great problem to have thou – choosing some new spinners for such a great van.
Happy trails!
As a recovering hippie with a life-long crush on VW vans, I must admit my jealousy. The perfect color too.
Congratulations!
Does she have a name yet? Yes, I name my automobiles.
Don’t let Esrun near it.
nice one Dave, thats a tidy looking camper van
*cough* do you want both garages knocking into one ? 🙂
Dave, forget all the SEO stuff; it takes a post about a VW camper to get me to leave my first comment 😉
I’m jealous as hell. We’ve been after a VW camper for 10 years now, but every time we’ve been to look at one you can see the road through the rust holes. I’m sure they’ve gone up 2-3 times in price since we started looking.
That has to be one of the best I’ve seen – especially a split screen. I’m sure you will enjoy Bob, and from what I remember the split screens are smaller than the later models so should fit in a garage. And I agree with the other comments about the rims – not sure about them…
I’m now just going to find that photo I scanned the other week of me with my parent’s split screen VW from 1977 when we lived in the states for a while and stick it up on TwitPic.
All the best to Bob…
Congrats Dave I know how much you have wanted one on these .
Nice looking beasty. Are you going to shoehorn in V8 🙂
@mickg .. or shall we call you bob the builder from now on … yep you were next on my list to get in touch with as if its doable I need the garage door making higher … I’ll be in touch after the weekend when I get back from centreparcs.
Nice car man! I’d love one of those.
Nice!,
come with any Scooby snacks?
Great VW! Looks in very good shape. These are very hard to find, especially in such a good shape. I’ve seen plenty of them with poor restore jobs, and look a lot more like old beat up cars instead of being oldtimers.
We’re working on getting one splitscreen ready by September, and hopefully this beauty will join our fleet, ready for rental…. cant wait!
That looks like an excellent example of a splitty, it made me decide that the VW Camper was actually one of the best design icons ever made so I just had to make a post about it ( here – http://www.redesign-day.com/design-icon-vw-split-screen-vans/ )
How have your first few months of ownership been?
Wow! It’s in amazing condition for being almost 50 years old. What a great find that is. Good luck with it hope it serves you well!
Looks great! Love the color..I’m about to repaint my ’73 Westy and the family wants it to look like yours! Any chance you have the color codes? Cheers!
Great paint job! It really looks top notch. I got my eye on a 67 also, but it’s in a terrible shape, and it will take a lot of cash to get it to mint shape. I’ll have to sell a ton of laptop repair manuals to raise the cash. In the meantime, a rental will do every once in a while…http://vwcampervanhero.co.uk/, I know the owners, let them know I sent you maybe you get a discount 😉
Wow Dave, that looks fab. I was born in ’68 and could only wish I was in as good nick as your VW Camper. I hope it serves you well.
Hi Dave, bit of an odd question but I don’t suppose you know the colour code for your van do you? I’m having one restored now and the colour of yours is what i’m after but can’t seem to find a code for it.
Cheers Matt
im so jealous thats the very one my fiance would love.. if only i had the cash to but 1 just like it.. stunning..love it love it love it…xx
