Keep Up To Date With Our Google Updates Calendar

One of the big changes that I have found with the introduction of Panda, Penguin and various other updates/penalties is that it is becoming more and more necessary to refer to some kind of calendar of updates and compare this to your organic traffic to see what updates you were affected by and perhaps give some kind of hint as to what is wrong with your current website.

After years of using Moz’s excellent calendar, we decided we would create our own. Our hope is that it might have a more UK focus, as sometimes updates may go live in the United States but not in the UK (or the other way around, for example the recent “Right to Be Forgotten” changes), on top of that Google appeared to be making around 20-50 updates per month, and often we see something but it’s not confirmed – so as time goes on you will see us adding confirmed and unconfirmed updates.

So without further ado, I introduce to you, our Google Update Calendar. Now that’s done let me talk about some if its unique features:

Timeline View

We have a very easy to look at timeline view, for looking at the latest updates and to see things in more detail in chronological order.

Need to know more about an update? Just click “Read More” in timeline view and it will expand with a brief summary and then links to the original Google communications (posts, tweets, Google+ updates) where possible, and failing that it’ll point you in the right direction within the SEO community.

Calendar View

We also thought it would be handy to have things in a calendar view, to get a better idea of when things occurred and also how close together.

Again if you want to know more about a particular update/day, click on the date in question and a summary with links will popup below to help you out:

Key

To make it easier to identify particular updates at a glance, we’ve created a colour coded key:

• Purple for Panda updates
• Green for Penguin updates
• Black for all other updates

Filter

If you know you are wanting to look into a particular area, say perhaps you suspect Penguin or you want to filter out “Other” updates you can use our filter functionality to do so:
